Nurgle themed Godsworn - Painting the Plaguesworn hunt

Image
Apologies for the delay in posts - I have been avidly painting and playing with my Godsworn hunt and absolutely loving it. I will do a gaming post another day but I would highly recommend the warband to anyone who fancies a change of pace in the game. As for the painting - thats been a blast too and here they are in all their glory Looking grimy As you can see I went for some variety in the skin tones with these guys. All of them were basecoated a deserty yellow colour and I did a couple of drybrushes and a thinned wash to get the major skin details nice and clear before highlighting with flayed one flesh. Browns on the cloth were done with rhinox hide then mournfang then scrag with a sharp edge of deathclaw in places and the furs with rhinox followed by doombull and then doombull and bone. The green armour is incubi darkness, waagh flesh, warboss green and then moot green edges with a spot of incubi mixed in to every layer to get the tone right. Metals are done with a stippling...

Nurgle themed Godsworn - Creating the Plaguesworn Hunt

Image
As mentioned in my last post I am planning on having a string of games using the Godsworn Hunt. This Sunday I was lucky enough to get a chance to test them out using some borrowed models (thanks Nick Bayton!). I had an absolute blast playing the four games and came out with one major win and one narrow loss vs Eyes of the Nine, one major loss and one major win vs Steelheart's Champions. At no point in any of these games did I feel like I had no options, the warband is so varied and fast moving they can always do something interesting. When I first saw the models for this warband I had a good chat with Nick about dedicating them to one of the Chaos gods. Nick did an amazing job of making his Godsworn into Slaaneshi cultists but I fancied something a bit... more grimy. Enter Grandfather Nurgle. An absolute pleasure to use these awesome models in a game! I used Blightking parts and a little greenstuff to give the warnband a diseased feel and am really pleased with how they turne...

Leodis Games Tournament 23.02.19

Image
Apologies for the lack of posts guys – I haven’t been getting as many games in as I wanted and need to get back on it with these blog posts! Last Saturday was a best of three tournament up at Leodis Games which (once you find it) is a decent little shop and gaming venue. There was a really great mix of warbands being played with Mollog, Magore, Zarbag, Fjul, Briar Queen, Theddra and Stormsire all in attendance. Total glory rather than glory differential was used as a second sorter which wasn’t ideal for my warband of choice as I think it favours high third end phase scorers such as objective and key based builds. The gaming area at Leodis Games I took the Chosen Axes to this event as I have been enjoying playing them and almost have them fully painted now too. I need to do some more work on the metals and an extra fine highlight on the hair and skin but they are getting there and I got some compliments on the scheme at the event. I had played the Mollog match up just once in t...

Mollog's mob - initial thoughts

Image
This article will focus on Mollog’s Mob which I am really keen to try out in a game as soon as possible. They look like great fun and are really different to any other warbands out there. There has already been a fair bit of discussion on the relative “power level” of the warband so I am going to try and avoid that and focus on what I think the fighters can and can’t be expected to achieve, leaving you to make up your own minds about how strong they are. Mollog The big man himself. Mollog has a whopping seven wounds and powerful attacks before inspiration which only get better when he takes three wounds and inspires. He also has the unique ability to charge with a move token or even with a charge token when inspired! This is one of the main reasons I think this warband needs to be played with to fully appreciate what they can do due to how many options this creates. Cards like faneway crystal, hidden paths and shadow step can be used in entirely new ways with Mollog....
